Monster Energy Kawasaki's Dietrich Takes Second in Pismo Beach Kawasaki Team Green's Lanza Clinches Pro 2 Championship

IRVINE, Calif. (October 23, 2007) - Monster Energy Kawasaki's Ricky Dietrich earned second place during the sandy WORCS round at the Oceano Dunes in Pismo Beach, Calif. Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Green rider Jamie Lanza clinched the Pro 2 championship after a dominating win aboard his Kawasaki KX450F.

Getting off to a great start, Dietrich found himself in third after the first lap and eventually took over the lead during the fourth lap. He remained in a heated battle to the final laps, where Dietrich was edged out and settled for second place.

“I just didn’t have enough for him,” said Dietrich of the first-place finisher. “I felt good though. Probably twice as good as last years race at this round.”

After the Pro class point’s leader pulled out of the race with bike trouble, Nathan Woods finished fifth and gained valuable points in the championship race. He sits only nine points out of the lead, keeping his championship hopes alive until the next round.

Teammate Destry Abbott also rode a solid race in the sandy conditions, coming across the finish in sixth-place.

In the Pro 2 class, it was Lanza’s day to celebrate as he won the race and clinched the class championship. With the title wrapped up, Lanza and the team have to decide whether to remain in the amateur class to go after the WORCS 250F A championship or step up to the Pro class for the first time.

“I still have a shot at the 250F A class championship, but it would be nice to get my feet wet in the Pro class since I’ll be racing there next year,” said Lanza. “I’ll be discussing the decision with Kawasaki and give it some serious thought.”

Currently, Kawasaki holds an impressive four of the top five positions in the point’s standings for the Pro 2 class.

The Monster Energy Kawasaki team will be in Taft, Calif., on November 2, for the 12th and final round of the WORCS series.
