“ Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Destry Abbott took his second win of season, while Team Green rider Josh Morros finished in second during the fifth round of the AMA National Hare and Hound in Lucerne, Calif. Abbott now has a 41 point gap in front of second place, while Josh Morros has moved into third place in the championship standings

Dusty Rabbit
Abbott played the rabbit the entire race as he led from start to finish in Lucerne. He kept a comfortable gap between second-place Morros and by the second loop had pulled away even more.

It felt good to lead from wire to wire, said Abbott. The bike was running great and I just kept pushing it to keep the lead. Every time I looked back, Josh (Morros) was right there. Together we were able to put a pretty good gap on everyone else. I really enjoyed the course. It was challenging but still a lot of fun.

Don’t Call Him a Rookie
He may be young, but Morros has shown exceptional talent the past few races and Lucerne was no different. Morros earned his third podium of the season and his second runner-up finish.

The first loop I stayed with Destry, but I couldn’t try and pass since the course was a little tight, said Morros. Once we got onto the second loop, he pulled away a little. I didn’t want to eat his dust too much, so I held back just enough. The loops were pretty short so I didn’t ever feel tired and was able to push the whole time.

Just being a Kid
After the race had finished, Morros couldn’t resist the urge to get a goodie from the ice cream truck. While everyone was cooling off and talking about the race, Morros was just being a kid.

Three Races Left
At the beginning of the year, Abbott knew that he needed to remain consistent and he would see himself at the top of the point’s standings. After five races, he now has a 41 point lead over second.

I’ve been feeling really good and it’s nice to have my hard work pay off, said Abbott. There are three races left and I just want to keep it up.

The next race AMA National Hare and Hound race is on May 17 in Jericho, Utah.
