Charity Events Raise More than $150,000 for Speedway Children’s Charities at NASCAR

Infineon Raceway
SONOMA, Calif. (June 23, 2008)

It was a banner weekend for Sonoma County youth groups as two events held during the Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series weekend combined to raise $151,000 for Speedway Children’s Charities.

The Children’s Champions Grand Marshal’s Banquet generated $95,000, while the 6th annual Race-n-Rock Charity Auction raised $56,000. All proceeds will benefit qualified youth groups in Sonoma County through Speedway Children’s Charities.

The Grand Marshal’s Banquet was held on Friday night of race weekend at beautiful Cline Cellars in Sonoma and featured Grand Marshal Guy Fieri form Food Network fame. The sit-down dinner attracted nearly 500 people, including NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers Boris Said and J.J. Yeley.

“The NASCAR weekend has become our biggest single fund-raising opportunity for Speedway Children’s Charities and we appreciate the generosity of all our sponsors, fans and donors who contributed to this effort,” said Steve Page, president and general manager of Infineon Raceway.

The top-selling item at the charity auction, which took place on Sunday at the raceway, was a custom Snap-on Tools toolbox, which netted $8,200. A one-of-a-kind designed helmet by artist David Arrigo was the second top item ($7,200). The helmet featured five-time Infineon Raceway champion Jeff Gordon, who signed it, as well as the 40th anniversary of the raceway. For information on Arrigo, visit www.davidarrigo.netfirms.com.
