Pacific F2000 Championship Returns to Infineon Raceway This Weekend
Infineon Raceway
SONOMA, Calif. (June 30, 2008)
The Pacific F2000 Championship Presented by Hankook Tires returns to Infineon Raceway for a double-header weekend of racing action, July 5-6.
Infineon Raceway has hosted the Pacific F2000 Championship each year since the series was introduced in 2004, and this year’s event will mark the seventh and eighth races on the series’ 12-race schedule. The weekend will also feature the Northern California Region Shelby American Automobile Club on the 12-turn, 2.52-mile road course.
"All of our teams and drivers want to race at Infineon because it’s truly a world-class venue – in every conceivable way – so that became our primary goal,” said Les Phillips, Pacific F2000 series originator and coordinator.
The addition of Infineon Raceway to the schedule has also proven popular with the drivers.
"To me, racing at Infineon is huge," says Jeff Westphal, the current series points leader who has also competed with the Jim Russell Racing Drivers School, which is based at Infineon Raceway. "Not only is it one of the premiere tracks in the United States, but the track is extremely relevant for the future as an aspiring professional race car driver in America.”
The Pacific F2000 Championship is designed to serve as a launching pad for drivers hoping to make a career in auto racing. The series has served as a jumping-off point for many drivers, including Sonoma’s Dane Cameron and Sausalito’s J.R. Hildebrand.
The double-header event will feature two rounds of qualifying and main events, with 40-minute races scheduled for 4:20 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
