Difficult S2 weekend for KTM's Pignotti
KTM
S2 Grand Prix of Austria
The S2 Grand Prix of Austria, held for the first time in Greinbach, proved to be a difficult one for KTM rider Attilio Pignotti but he did scrape together 30 points from the motos to finish overall seventh.
The weekend started badly for Pignotti and the other riders already on Saturday when torrential rain cut short practice and left the Italian only fourteenth fastest ahead of Sunday's S2 races. Pignotti did make two good starts in the two motos on Sunday. He overtook a number of riders and attempted to stay with the front group. He made no mistakes, managing to finish seventh in the first race. He improved that by two places in race two to defend his fourth place position in the standings.
The Italian finished the 2007 season in second place and presently he trails the championship leader Adrien Chareyre by 65 points with still 150 up for grabs in the three remaining GPs.
The Greinbach course was very technical and twisty, offering very few opportunities to overtake. It lies in the undulating hills of the south east of the country and is 130 km south of the capital Vienna.
