Infineon Raceway’s Seipel to be Honored At Hot Rod Reunion in Bakersfield

Infineon Raceway’s Georgia Seipel has been named a Reunion Honoree at the 17th annual NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion, considered one of the largest nostalgia drag racing events on the West Coast each year.
Seipel will be honored, along with seven other drag racing legends, at historic Auto Club Famoso Raceway during the race weekend, Oct. 10-12. Seipel has dedicated nearly 50 years of her life to drag racing, including the last 20 years as Drag Strip Manager at the Sonoma Valley quarter-mile.
“I am honored, but also very surprised that they chose me,” said Seipel, 68, a resident of San Leandro. “I just love what I do, and I’d do it all over again if I could. I must be getting old.”
Seipel will be honored for her contributions to drag racing, as well as her dedication to improving track safety conditions, during the nostalgia drag racing event. Prior to her tenure at Infineon Raceway, Seipel managed Baylands Raceway in Fremont in the San Francisco Bay Area for 10 years.
She was also a drag racer for 10 years (1976-1987) behind the wheel of her hot pink 1956 Austin-Healey small-block Chevy. Her husband, Ted, and son, Kyle, are also drag racers at the NHRA level.
Seipel, who will receive a Wally Trophy Saturday evening, Oct. 11, was hired as Drag Strip Manager at then-Sears Point Raceway in 1988. She was integral to the development of the popular Wednesday Night Drags and Top the Cops™ drag racing programs, and recently led Infineon Raceway’s team to the NHRA Summit Racing Series Pacific Division championship for the second time in three years.
