FULLER AND CAT TEAM EYE IMPROVEMENT SATURDAY AT POMONA
News From David Powers Motorsports
and Caterpillar
POMONA, Calif. (Nov. 14, 2008)
Hot Rod Fuller drove his David Powers-owned Caterpillar dragster to the provisional No. 15 qualifying position Friday afternoon at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona.
The seven-time Top Fuel winner, who has qualified for 84 consecutive events, posted his quickest provisional qualifying lap on Thursday afternoon when he blasted the Hastings Deering/WesTrac CAT car to a pass of 3.944 seconds at 302.28 mph. On Friday’s only qualifying attempt, Fuller raced to a lap of 3.983 at 294.75 mph to finish in the No. 15 provisional qualifying position.
“I’m not too disappointed,” Fuller said. “It’s just like last year not being in after two runs, but with a lot less pressure. This track has been really tricky with the sun and heat. It’s supposed to be a little cooler and when we make that last run it’ll be near dusk, so you might see the top spot set then. We’ll be ok.”
Professional nitro qualifying resumes Saturday afternoon at the Pomona track with sessions scheduled for Noon and 3:30 p.m. (PT). Fuller qualified 10th at the 2008 season-opener at Auto Club Raceway at 4.539-seconds.
