Canadian John Ryan (J.R.) Fitzpatrick is ready for the season opening NASCAR Camping World Truck Series NextEra Energy Resources 250 to be run at Daytona International Speedway on Friday night, February 13.
Fitzpatrick, from Cambridge, Ontario, Canada, hopes that Friday the 13th will be a lucky day for him and his No. 7 Mammoet Chevrolet Silverado. Fitzpatrick has two starts in the series with a best finish of 21st at Martinsville. The NASCAR CASCAR champion will be running for the Camping World Truck Series Rookie of the Year Award.
Twenty year old J.R. is ready to get the season started.
"I am pretty excited," Fitzpatrick said. "After the ARCA race we learned a lot. Looking at the truck it is a beautiful piece. I have talked to my spotter about running here since he has been here many times. I am talking to the veterans to get to know them and get any advice that they may have to help me here."
"We are going to run some single truck laps tomorrow and see where we are at speed wise. The guys rebuilt the whole truck, it is a beautiful piece and we need to see what kind of speed we have on our own. I want to qualify upfront for the race. Then we will run some laps in the draft to get used to running here with the other trucks."
TRG Motorsports team owner Kevin Buckler is entering his third season in the Truck Series. The team posted their first series win last year at Mansfield.
"We have a good handle on what it takes to run these trucks at the front," Buckler said. "J.R. is our guy and he has shown incredible poise and talent in his ascension to running with the big boys. It is now up to us to help develop him into the champion that he can become. Butch Hylton and the guys have totally rebuilt the truck and we will be ready to have him up to speed when practice starts tomorrow."
Practice for the NextEra Energy Resources 250 at Daytona will start tomorrow, Wednesday, at 12 pm with qualifying on Thursday night at 6 p.m. Qualifying on Thursday night will be televised on SPEED starting at 7 p.m. ET. The season opening Camping World Truck Series race will be run under the lights on Friday, February 13 and televised live on the SPEED Channel starting at 8 pm.
