Steffi Laier second in France for KTM
KTM-Sportmotorcycles AG,
2009 GP of France 07/06/2009
Germany's Steffi Laier, the only woman full factory rider in the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing put in a strong weekend's competition in Round Four of the Women's World Championship to finish second on the podium at Ernee, France on Sunday.
Laier followed up a strong first moto on Saturday, where she finished third, with a second place behind the French rider Lancelot to give her second overall and further secure her second place in the championship standings. Lancelot, who was fast in front of her home crowd on Sunday at the circuit in northwest France, now has 185 championship points, with Laier in second, 24 points behind. With three rounds and 150 points still up for grabs, the talented Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team's young German rider is still in the running for the 2009 title.
Steffi Laier:
"It was tough here in France but I am still happy to have come second. "I had a bad start in the first moto, but it was better today for the second moto. But going into the first corner the front wheel slipped and then the back wheel and I lost a few positions. Now I hope to get my revenge at the next round in Germany in two weeks time. I'll have lots of people supporting me there and I want to be very focussed and do my best. There are still three GPs to go and much can happen between now and the end of the season," she said.
