AMA Racing amateur hillclimbers to settle 2010 national titles on Oregonia, Ohio's Devil's Staircase

PICKERINGTON, Ohio

The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) has announced that it has entered into a multi-year agreement with the AMA-chartered Dayton Motorcycle Club to host and promote the annual AMA Racing Hillclimb Grand Championships. The first event run under the new agreement will be held at the nationally known Devil's Staircase in Oregonia, Ohio, Aug. 7-8, 2010.

The AMA Racing Hillclimb Grand Championships crown amateur national hillclimb champions in a number of classes, including youth and adult riders, across a range of skill and displacement levels.

The Devil's Staircase is best known for hosting a round of the AMA Pro Racing Hillclimb Championships. The 2009 National, the final event of the '09 season, went down this past weekend, on Oct. 11.

"Multi-year agreements can help encourage consistency, familiarity and steady improvement in a competitive event," said Joe Bromley, director of racing for the AMA. "The Dayton Motorcycle Club is a well-respected organization that has decades of experience running major events, not to mention a long history with the AMA. We expect that experience to elevate the AMA Racing Hillclimb Grand Championships to the next level and deliver a superb competitive experience for our amateur racers."

Kevin Looney, president of the Dayton Motorcycle Club, said adding the AMA Racing Hillclimb Grand Championships to the club's calendar is a natural supplement to the professional hillclimb event.

"The Dayton Motorcycle Club is excited to host the AMA Racing Hillclimb Grand Championships at the Devil's Staircase in Oregonia, Ohio," Looney said. "The Devil's Staircase has been one of the premier stops on the AMA Pro Racing Hillclimb Championship circuit for 60 years, and we can't wait to see what the up-and-coming stars of hillclimbing can do on our hill."

More information about the Dayton Motorcycle Club can be found at DaytonMC.com. More information about the 2010 AMA Racing Hillclimb Grand Championships, including registration forms and daily schedules, will be posted at AMARacing.com as it becomes available.
