Five-time world champion drag racer Jeg Coughlin Jr. has accomplished numerous things in his career on the quarter-mile drag strip, but it was a brief jog down a non-descript road in his hometown of Columbus, Ohio, that sticks out more than any other athletic journey in his life.

The year was 2002 and the United States was hosting the 19th Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City when the path of the Olympic torch wound its way into the Buckeye State. Coughlin was asked to be a torchbearer and he accepted with a world record reaction time, becoming the first NHRA drag racer to take part in the prestigious honor. Race fans the world over celebrated the historic moment and Coughlin himself admitted it was a personal milestone he will never forget.
