MINASSIAN/GENE/VILLENEUVE TAKE THE SPOILS AT SPA WITH THE PEUGEOT 908 HDi FAP

Just like the first two rounds of the 2008 Le Mans Series, the 1,000km de Spa-Francorchamps turned out to be yet another fiercely-disputed, drama-filled race. The result saw Team Peugeot Total claim its third success from three starts without suffering the slightest technical problem. Nicolas Minassian, Marc Gené and Jacques Villeneuve shared the winning N°7 Peugeot 908 HDi FAP, but the team's other car crashed out shortly after the two-hour mark.

Audi re-captures lead in Le Mans Series

- Alex Prémat and Mike Rockenfeller runners-up at Spa again

- Audi in first place in the manufacturers’ championship
- Prémat/Rockenfeller have equal points as the front runners

Audi has taken the lead of the manufacturers’ championship of the European Le Mans Series at the 1000-kilometre race at Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium). The two Audi youngsters Alexandre Prémat (26/France) and Mike Rockenfeller (24/Germany) in their Audi R10 TDI finished the third race of the season again in second place, thus going to the "Audi home round" at the Nürburgring on 17 August with the same points score as the Peugeot drivers Marc Gené and Nicolas Minassian.

Today's qualifying for the third round of the LMS at Spa saw the team claim its third pole in a row thanks to Stéphane Sarrazin during what turned out to be something of a 'stop and go' session…

Audi R10 TDI on front row for first time in LMS

- Allan McNish clinches position two for Audi
- Both Audi cars on first two rows of the grid

At its third running in the European Le Mans Series, the Audi R10 TDI starts to the race from the front row of the grid for the first time. In qualifying at Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium), Allan McNish managed to push himself between the two Peugeot 908s. Mike Rockenfeller in the second R10 TDI of Audi Sport Team Joest secured fourth place on the grid despite having been obstructed on his fastest lap.

Round two of the 2008 FIA GT Championship takes place next week at Monza, the place where Italians go to worship motorsport. The ‘Pista Magica’, as Monza is known locally, is the fastest track on the FIA GT calendar, and it is one that every Ferrari team relishes. To win at Monza in a Ferrari is a special feeling for a racing driver so the CR Scuderia boys will be going all out to hit the top spot next weekend.
