After the rigours of the Jordanian deserts, crews will have little respite from the heat as they head to the island of Sardinia, though at least the air will be less dry and more bearable. The sixth round of the World Rally Championship represents a return to Europe after a string of three long-haul events in a row.

HIRVONEN SWEEPS TO JORDAN WIN AS FORD EXTENDS WORLD SERIES LEAD

Jordan Rally, 27 April 2008
Mikko Hirvonen and Jarmo Lehtinen claimed their first victory of the season on an enthralling Jordan Rally today. The BP Ford Abu Dhabi World Rally Team pair returned to the lead of the drivers' standings in the FIA World Rally Championship after winning by 1min 15.7sec in a Focus RS World Rally Car. Team-mates Jari-Matti Latvala and Miikka Anttila were seventh in another Focus RS, as reigning world champion Ford extended its lead in the manufacturers' championship to seven points.

Chris Atkinson and Stéphane Prévot secured a podium finish on the final day of the Jordan Rally after another day of change amongst the front-runners. The only entry for the Subaru World Rally Team today, the duo snatched a step of the podium as those in front stumbled to make it three podiums in a row.

Mike Petersen (Las Vegas, Nev., USA) dug deep within himself to pull the No. 217 Petersen Motorsports/MMPIE/PAWS/Petersen Holdings/BF Goodrich Chevrolet from last in the overall running order to 19th at today's conclusion of the Central Europe Rally.

BP Ford Abu Dhabi World Rally Team goes into tomorrow's final day of the Jordan Rally perfectly poised to challenge for victory on this fifth round of the FIA World Rally Championship. Jari-Matti Latvala and Miikka Anttila lie second in a Ford Focus RS World Rally Car with team-mates Mikko Hirvonen and Jarmo Lehtinen in third, just 1.9sec behind their fellow Finns. Both are within striking distance of leader Dani Sordo as only 10.4sec cover the leading trio.

Chris Atkinson and Stéphane Prévot hold fourth position overall for the Subaru World Rally Team after battling in-car temperatures of over 40 degrees Celsius. Petter Solberg and Phil Mills however were ruled out of the competition on the day’s final stage, having earlier demonstrated improved pace with a raft of top-four stage times.

After the first intensely punishing day of competition on the very first WRC round in the Middle East, Chris Atkinson and Stéphane Prévot finished in fifth position overall. The Subaru World Rally Team duo of Petter Solberg and Phil Mills took an early lead but were forced to retire during the afternoon.

Petersen Motorsports Finishes Longest Stage 39th, Gains One Position in Overall

Michael Petersen (Las Vegas, Nev., USA) began his march back up through the running order of the inaugural Central Europe Rally today. Stage Four returned the No. 217 Petersen Motorsports/MMPIE/PAWS/Petersen Holdings/BF Goodrich Chevrolet to the site of the first stage where Petersen and co-driver Matthew Stevenson (Ipswich, England) finished 14th in the car class.

Teething Problems Continue to Haunt American Mike Petersen in Central Europe Rally
Conditions and Wiper Problems Linger, Hurting Petersen Motorsports in Stage 3

Today's Stage Three of the Central Europe Rally proved to be more similar to Stage Two than driver Michael Petersen (Las Vegas, Nev., USA) had hoped. Not only was the course the same as yesterday's Special, only reversed, but the result was equally frustrating. The No. 217 Petersen Motorsports/MMPIE/PAWS/Petersen Holdings/BF Goodrich Chevrolet, making its first competitive appearance this week, finished 70th in the "Car" class today.
