Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia in their first race for the works team, finished in a magnificent second place a few seconds in front of Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena. Solid Finnish start for the Citroën Junior Team

The first half of the Rally Finland has gone perfectly to plan for the Citroën Junior Team. Dani Sordo and Marc Marti are fifth overall, having set a fastest stage time in the land of the 1000 lakes. Kimi Räikkönen and Kaj Lindström are currently fifth. A long day of 162 competitive kilometres remains on the programme for tomorrow.

LATVALA DELIGHTS HOME FANS BY LEADING RALLY FINLAND FOR FORD

Jari-Matti Latvala and Miikka Anttila lead Rally Finland for the BP Ford Abu Dhabi World Rally Team after today's dramatic opening leg. The Finnish duo delighted their home fans by winning three speed tests to build a 9.1sec advantage in their Ford Focus RS World Rally Car. Team-mates Mikko Hirvonen and Jarmo Lehtinen led the rally initially, but the 2009 winners crashed heavily and although both escaped injury, their car was severely damaged and will not restart tomorrow.

MINI is making a comeback on the international rally circuit. From 2011, the brand will compete at selected rounds of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) and will go on to contest the entire season from 2012 onwards. This involvement is planned for several years.

Ford Racing will supply 43 Fiestas from the Fiesta Movement to the Team O’Neil Rally School in New Hampshire

• Ford Racing will supply 43 Fiestas from the Fiesta Movement to the Team O’Neil Rally School in New Hampshire for aspiring rally drivers

• Team O’Neil Rally School will upfit Fiesta with a roll bar, rally suspension and off-road tires to be used in the school’s Ford Racing Fiesta Rally Experience and various rally racing programs

• Ford Fiesta will be the global rally car for Ford Motor Company in 2011 and beyond running in FIA World Rally Championship and in Rally America

Last year, 100 European-spec Ford Fiestas arrived in North America for the Fiesta Movement. This summer, 43 of the Fiestas will receive a second life as Ford Racing teams up with Team O’Neil Rally School to create the Ford Racing Fiesta Rally Experience in Dalton, N.H.

BP Ford Abu Dhabi World Rally Team drivers Mikko Hirvonen and Jarmo Lehtinen and team-mates Jari-Matti Latvala and Miikka Anttila finished fifth and sixth respectively in Rally Bulgaria today. It was the first occasion that Bulgaria has hosted a round of the FIA World Rally Championship and the asphalt roads in the mountains near Sofia provided a stern test for the Focus RS World Rally Car pair.

The first day of the Rally Bulgaria was characterised by some highs and some lows for the Citroën Junior Team. Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia were second after the opening loop of two stages, but then lost a minute in the afternoon. Kimi Räikkönen and Kaj Lindström held fourth overall – their best ever performance on a World Championship rally – after three of today’s four stages. On the final stage of the day they went off the road. The Finnish crew hopes to rejoin the action tomorrow.

It is 278 days since the last sealed-surface round of the series concluded in Spain in October last year, and drivers Mikko Hirvonen and Jarmo Lehtinen and team-mates Jari-Matti Latvala and Miikka Anttila shook off the rust to end the opening leg in fourth and fifth respectively.
