Antelope Valley High School automotive students to participate in automotive educational seminar hosted by the California Hot Rod Reunion, Oct. 10

About 50 automotive students from Antelope Valley High School, Lancaster, Calif., will get a lesson in Hot Rod 101 thanks to the veteran racing parts maker Joe Mondello and the California Hot Rod Reunion. Mondello will be the featured lecturer at this year’s education seminar hosted by the Reunion, presented by the Automobile Club of Southern California, on Fri., Oct. 10.

82 University Teams From Nine Countries Entered

Formula SAE West, an educational competition in the SAE Collegiate Design Series

82 university teams from Brazil, Canada, China, Japan, Mexico, Sweden, United Arab Emirates, U.S. and Venezuela come together for the final event in the 2008 SAE Collegiate Design Series, a winner of the National Science Foundation Public Service Award. In Formula SAE competition, students design, build and compete with small formula-style racing cars. The restrictions on the car frame and engine are limited so that the knowledge, creativity and imagination of the team members are challenged.

Mississippi State University Students Win GM and DOE Challenge X 2008 Competition

Challenge X 2008 Competition
Washington, D.C.


Mississippi State University, for the second consecutive year, has earned top honors in General Motors (GM) and the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Challenge X student engineering competition. Over the past nine months, the 2008 Challenge X: Crossover to Sustainability competition challenged 17 university teams from the U.S. and Canada to reengineer a Chevrolet Equinox that employs advanced powertrain technologies. The goal is to produce a vehicle that has improved fuel economy and lower emissions, all while maintaining driver comfort and vehicle performance.

In preparation for its fifth season Formula BMW USA is changing and growing to better meet the needs of young racing drivers in North, Central and South America. To recognize the scope of the championship, Formula BMW USA will add two rounds in support of the Brazilian Formula 1 Grand Prix and be renamed Formula BMW Americas. To further strengthen the young driver development program, BMW Motorsport will also increase the Junior scholarship award to $80,000.
Formula BMW Americas reflects the growth of Formula BMW worldwide. Formula BMW Germany and Formula BMW UK announced on June 28th that the two series will reorganize to form Formula BMW Europe. Formula BMW Europe, Formula BMW Americas and Formula BMW Asia will now comprise the new face of Formula BMW.
