“We love to race Crandon,” exclaimed Mike Oberg after finishing in the runner up spot for the Forest County Potawatomi Chairman’s Cup. Along with the Cup race, TORC Rounds 5 and 6 were held at the iconic off-road race facility in Crandon, Wisconsin. The previous race on the 2009 Traxxas TORC Series presented by AMSOIL trail saw the Oberg Motorsports #80 PRO-2WD Chevy race among the leaders only to have a mechanical failure cut his race short. The team was looking for that podium finish that would put the team right into the championship hunt.

After two weekends of TORC racing in Texas and California, Scott Taylor and the Skyjacker Ford were looking forward to racing at the track he considers home, “The Big House” in Crandon, Wisconsin. Since the creation of this permanent facility in 1983, nobody has completed more laps or has more wins, than Scott Taylor. His reputation as one of the favorites at the track continues as the Illinois native took home the top prize in Round 6 of the Traxxas TORC Series presented by AMSOIL.

You can see it in their eyes and hear it in their voice—every driver from rookie level to true legends of the sport of off-road racing love to race at Crandon International Raceway. And it’s a love earned out of respect not glamor. This fast, high speed yet technical natural terrain off-road super speedway is challenging because you can never really master Crandon. If you work hard enough, though, the best teams drivers will understand a few of its secrets and gain a command of Crandon’s complexity. Scott Douglas is in the top echelon of drivers who have come close to that mastery, earning earning numerous wins and not one but two BorgWarner Cup victories here.

Team Toyo® Sweeps Pro 4 Podium Both Saturday and Sunday at Crandon

Toyo Tires rocked the legendary Crandon International Off-Road Raceway during rounds 5 & 6 of TORC (The Off-Road Championship) Series this past weekend by sweeping the Pro 4X4 Truck class podium both days. Rick Huseman, driver of the #36 Monster Energy/Traxxas/Toyota/Toyo Tires Tundra, was the back-to-back winner. Kyle and father Curt LeDuc drove their Rockstar/Makita/Ford Trucks/Toyo Tires F-150 trucks to back-to-back second and third place finishes… all competitors were running on 35X12.50R17 Toyo Open Country M/T®-R tires.

Robby Gordon/Toyo Tires Win Baja… Again!

Robby Gordon, driver of the #77 Monster Energy/Toyo Tires Chevy CK1500 trophy truck, won the 41st running of the legendary Tecate SCORE Baja 500 this weekend while competing on 37X13.50R17 Toyo Open Country M/T®-R tires. Gordon finished this year’s punishing off-road race, which spanned 432.51-miles, in a time of 8:35:49… a 50.309-mph average speed.

Oberg Shows Potential, Looks to Crandon for Redemption

Mike Oberg brought his #80 AMSOIL Kumho Tire Chevy PRO-2WD race truck looking to end his string of unique on-track incidents that has prevented strong finishes in the opening rounds of the Traxxas TORC series presented by AMSOIL. The weekend on the West Coast saw the race truck perform well, only to come up a little short of expectations.

Fresh off his Round Two victory, Scott Taylor and his #8 Skyjacker ATD BFGoodrich Ford F-150 was looking to Perris keep the pressure on PRO-2WD points leader Ricky Johnson. With the assistance of Mike Kasch, Russ Wernimont and the West Coast pit crew. Taylor Racing’s weekend looked very promising, but a missed chassis setup meant a missed opportunity.

Keith Steele Gains Valuable Knowledge at TORC Opener

After thoroughly dominating and winning the Super Truck division of the now defunct World Series of Off-Road Racing, Keith Steele found a new challenge, competing in the PRO-2WD ranks of the Traxxas TORC Series presented by AMSOIL. Along the way, Steele Off-Road Racing had another challenge, find the funding to get the team to all sixteen rounds of racing.
