WORK IN PROGRESS FOR THE EF02

Formulec Frankfurt Motorshow, Tue, 13 Sep 2011 Formulec's EF01.pngThis week's 64th Frankfurt Motorshow will see the EF01, Formulec's 100% electric single-seater, celebrate the first anniversary of its maiden development run. It has been a year full of learning experiences, with a great deal about the intricacies of electric power units becoming clear. Covering over 1,200 kilometres on race tracks as varied as Le Mans and Magny-Cours, running numerous full scale windtunnel sessions and carrying out development work on the test bench has allowed the EF01 to accumulate invaluable experience that will prove vital in the organisation of future electric racing competitions.

This experience has been complimented by various public presentations of the EF01 over the past year, with events at Cancun’s COP16, the Bibendum Challenge in Berlin, ‘Le Mans looking to the future’ parade at the 24 Hours and alongside several Formula One teams at the Moscow and Rotterdam road shows. With their ever-increasing experience, the technical team has been able to finalise the specifications for the definitive version of Formulec’s electric single-seater, the EF02, which will take part in international racing competition. The main evolutions concern ease of use for teams, design, cost, weight reduction and, crucially, safety. Technologies onboard the EF02 will define new standards of crash test resilience, as well as technical control during events. As such the EF01 will be present on the stand of Dekra - the European leader in automotive technical control and safety issues - during the Frankfurt Motorshow. Partners since December 2010, Dekra and Formulec have built their collaboration around the shared goal of a safe-running electric single-seater. Liaising with engineering specialist Ségula Technologies Automotive and the project’s other technical partners, they are studying the safety aspects linked to the running of the EF02 and problems relating to technical control that could potentially be faced during future events. The EF01 will be displayed on the Dekra stand: Hall n°8, Stand n°A25 for the duration of the show. About Formulec Based in the Paris area, Formulec are the developers of the EFO1, a 100% electric single-seater race car. The EF01 has been demonstrated in France and abroad as part of a promotional campaign dedicated to founding the first international series for electric single-seaters.
