NASA NAPA VALLEY, Calif. November 29, 2011 Live Internet broadcast for full 25 hours A record 86 entries are ready for the United States Air Force (USAF) National Auto Sport Association (NASA) 25 Hours of Thunderhill race to be run this weekend, December 3-4, at Thunderhill Raceway Park in Willows, California.
he entries, spread over six classes, include diverse types of cars, including the Scion tC, a Porsche GT3 Cup car, and even a Chevrolet Silverado pick-up stock car. The variation of racers that will compete on the three-mile, 15-turn circuit located 90 minutes north of Sacramento is also as varied as the circumstances they will encounter over the 25 hours of racing this weekend. The green flag will drop at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Heading the list of entries is the Porsche GT3 Cup ES class entry of Mercer Motorsports. Mercer are two-time winners of the event and are seeking the hat-trick of three overall USAF NASA 25 Hours of Thunderhill wins in a row. The Royal Purple Chevrolet Silverado of NASA National Champion Troy Lindstrom will be racing to take the top step of the podium from the Mercer crew after fighting through tough conditions last year that frustrated their effort towards an overall win. Another team that is sure to be a factor in the E2 and E2 classes come Sunday morning is the two-car Mazda RX8 team of Robert Davis Racing, which has had strong finishes in the past. The DG-Spec Scion tC Racing Team headed by Dan Gardner is coming to the event with years of endurance racing experience and is looking to win the E1 class with a driver line-up that includes veteran pro drivers Craig Stanton and Ryan Eversley. “This is the biggest and best field of cars we have had in the nine-year history of the USAF NASA 25 Hours of Thunderhill,” Jerry Kunzman, NASA Executive Director, said. “The drivers and teams which have run this race talk about it all year with others who they race against in their regular series. That makes more teams, and the best drivers want to come and run this great event. Having 86 cars on the three-mile Thunderhill Raceway track is going to be great! If you can’t be there, we have arranged for a live Internet broadcast of the event, so everyone around the world can follow the action. This is going to be an endurance race for the ages. Our team at NASA is a ready for a great weekend of racing!” The live race web broadcast can be heard on the Internet at http://www.enduranceradio.net. The NASA 25 Hours of Thunderhill will see a field of over 85 cars racing in six classes (ES, ESR, E0, E1, E2, E3) going twice around the clock plus an hour over the three-mile, 15-turn track located 90-minutes north of Sacramento.
