French Star Teddy Pons Wins the 14th ‘Mauro Ravenna’ Karujet!

UIM Aquabike World Championship Guadeloupe, Monday, 18 April, UIM Aquabike World Championship header_apr18.jpgTeddy Pons from France was crowned the winner of the 14th edition of the Karujet run in memory of the late Mauro Ravenna after finishing in eighth place in the fifth and final stage.

After 5 heats and 600 km around Guadeloupe’s butterfly Island it was the French star who came out on top and who best-mastered the difficult conditions and poor weather which at times took their toll of several of the fancied riders including last year’s winner, Jean-Bruno Pastorello and Americans Dustin Farthing and Chris McCluggage. Sunday’s last two heats (4 &5) were made up of 8 laps of 15km each from Viard beach to Mouchoir Carré and back to Viard. After taking second place in heat three, finishing behind Davy Vaitilingon and ahead of Fabien Limon, Teddy Pons started with a gap of 4’ on Cedric Ramassamy (GWA) and 13’ on the third in the overalls, Francoise Medori (FRA). Pons sat back in heat four doing enough to protect his overall lead, with the stage win going to Jean Christophe Prayas (SBT), with Gounuman Patrick (GWA) second and Bruno Vincendeau (FRA) in third . Pons finished in 7th ahead of his main rival Ramassamy in 8th. The fifth and final heat win went to Dusting Farthing with Vincent Karam (GWA) in second and Jean-Bruno Pastorello (FRA) in third. Pons’ strategy was to cover off his main rivals Ramassamy and Gounuman, which he did, finishing in eighth, with Ramassamy down in 19th and Gounuman finishing in 9th position to jump Medori and take third overall. FIRST TEN OVERALLS 1 - Teddy Pons - FRA 2 - Ramassamy Cedric (GWA) +6’10” 3 - Patrick Gounuman (GWA) +14’28” 4 - Francoise Medori (FRA) + 15’17” 5 - Jean Meclot (GWA) +19’03” 6 - Mathieu Podda (FRA) + 24’27” 7 - Christophe Concoriet (MTQ) + 25’21” 8 - Hervé Partouche (FRA) + 26’43” 9 - Jean Luc Jahsy (GWA) + 40’33” 10 - Hugues Degrandmaison (GWA) + 45’32”
