The Streak Continues - Long Live “The Streak”!

F1 H2O / F1 Powerboat News DOHA, Qatar – Thursday, November 25, 2010 The UIM F1 H2O World Championship for powerboating has been an exciting and confusing seven month journey so far and it's far from over as this weekend on the 26th and 27th of November the tour stops in Doha for the Eighth Grand Prix of Qatar.

The “streak” has grown to a five race stretch with different drivers winning in each of the first five races of the 2010 campaign. The Mad Croc Team leads in wins with teammates Sami Selio of Finland and rookie Italian Alex Carella taking back to back victories in St. Petersburg, Russia and Linyi in China. Overall, Carella is third in the championship with 46 points while Selio it tied for fourth with 44. Italian veteran Francesco Cantando of the Singha Team is chasing the dream of a first title having finished three times in the runner-up position over his 15 year career and leads the points table with 59 points with his win in Shenzhen, China a month ago. American driver Jay Price from the Qatar organization returns to his teams home circuit in second place in the championship with 48 points. Jay, has been consistent in 2010 and has finished all but the last event crashing out early in Shenzhen and losing his top position in the drivers championship as he searches for a second world title. Ahmad Al Hameli from the Team Abu Dhabi group won in Portimao, Portugal for the second straight season and is sitting seventh in the championship with 20 points. The Abu Dhabi native still has an outside chance while his teammate Thani Al Qamzi who won here in Doha in 2007 is tied for fourth with Selio at 44 points. Round six of eight is now just a few days away and the question is whether the “streak” stays alive and continues? Or, will there be for the first time a double winner in 2010? Whichever driver wins for the second time this season could be taking a giant step towards the dream of becoming World Champion for 2010. When the smoke clears after this weekend’s Grand Prix we should have a much better picture of where we stand in the drivers championship. Or, in this crazy season, maybe not.
