Updated Tire Rules for Speedway Pavement Series

Tire rules for the 2007 Rage Karts Speedway Pavement Series have been updated and are effective beginning with the X-Caliber Winter Nationals at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, March 16 – 18, 2007. Click here for the updates and suggestions from the JTR Eagle.

2007 Rage Karts Speedway Pavement Series Tire Rules & Procedures – Updated 2.28.07 Tire Rules 1. Use, possession, and sale of all tire chemicals will not be allowed on racetrack premises. WKA reserves the right to randomly impound tires at any time. 2. All exposed flames, “tire boxes,” “tire rotisseries,” will not be allowed on track premises. 3. All competitors must bring new or used right-side tires to a designated area where they will be inspected and branded to ensure they are the only tires run on the kart for the classes designated by the driver. Left-side tires may be new or used also; however, prep is prohibited on all tires. Tires may be mounted and out of wrapper. 4. Branded tires must be visible at all times. Competitors must present their tires for inspection immediately upon request. Failure to do so will subject competitor to disqualification from that class. 5. The JTR Eagle will be used at the tech instrument for tires. Things that can be done with tires: 1. Tire warmers can be used at the track to help size tires. This must be done outside of trailers and in plain sight. 2. Tires may be washed with water only. Use of detergents or other types of chemicals may affect the reading of the JTR Eagle. 3. If a tire is damaged or ruined during practice or qualifying, it may be replaced only with the permission of the tech personnel. 4. Run any air pressure desired. 5. Run any stagger. 6. Run any rim width up to the maximum stated in the Tech Manual Rule 402.1. 7. Use of heated tire scrapers to remove accumulated rubber build up on tires is allowed. 8. Run any non-treated tire for practice. Things that cannot be done with tires: 1. No preps of any kind will be allowed on the tires. 2. You may not alter or copy the brand placed on tire. The bottom line: If you come to the track with no prep in your trailer, if you follow the procedures outlined in this information page you should not run into any problems. The desire of this program is to address a major problem and at the same time putting everyone on a level playing field. Explanation of the provisions to run the same tires more than once: 1. Competitors must request permission from the WKA tech official to run the tires for more than one class. 2. Competitors must go through the same procedure as having a new set of tires inspected - registered and branded for the first class they will be competing in. JTR Eagle - The JTR Eagle will be the tech tool used at the events. •Tires may be checked during practice. If the tire fails the driver will miss practice. • Drivers will be checked when they come to qualifying. If they fail, they will be required to start in the rear. In the case of second round qualifying, they will have to go through that and if they qualify, still start in the rear. If more than one driver is in this situation they will draw for their starting position. • Drivers will be checked coming to the grid for the feature. If they fail, they will be disqualified and it will be a droppable DQ. • Drivers going to post-race impound will be checked. If they fail, they will be disqualified and it will be a non-droppable zero. • Prepping remains illegal. • Cutting will not be a tech item. • All decisions by the officials on tires will be final. Suggestions from the JTR Eagle With the JTR Eagle being the instrument used by WKA for tire tech, I would like to offer you - the karter, suggestions to help you be comfortable and confident with this new rule. 1. Protect your tires. When you are working on your kart, and any type of liquid or spray is being used, remove the tires from the kart. If time does not permit removal of the tires, cover them for protection. This will prevent anything from getting in and/or on the tires. 2. Use a non-spray product to mount your tires. By using a spray, even something as simple as Windex, the aerosol will get inside the tire and give the Eagle a reading. Whatever you use to lubricate the bead of your tires, make sure that it’s wiped on and NOT sprayed on the beads. 3. Thoroughly clean the rims you are mounting your tires on. This will ensure that the Eagle does not pick up any previous prep (if used). 4. Make sure the brushes, sponges, rags, buckets, etc. that you will be using to wash your tires are clean. If you have prepped in the past, and are using the same washing tools, the prep is in the tools and will get on the tires and this will give the Eagle a reading. If this is the case, I SUGGEST that you use new washing tools. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation with this rule. The JTR Eagle has been a success, and as with any new program, procedures are constantly being refined. By following the above suggestions, we are confident that you will not have any delays in getting through tire tech with non-prepped tires. If you have any questions, please let me know.
