A familiar face at the head of the grid for many years, WKA and karters were saddened by the loss of Samie Borsuk in 2006. In honor of his dedication and love for the sport of karting and the people involved, the X-Caliber Winter Nationals at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, March 16 – 18, will be recognized as the Samie Memorial Race.
After moving down from upstate New York, Samie took a position with security at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. From there, he began working at WKA events at the facility, eventually becoming WKA Director of Operations, a position he held for nearly fifteen years. After which, he could still be seen at WKA National events assisting on the grid and with operations. Samie loved the sport of karting and enjoyed even more the events held at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, both on the Fifth Mile outback and on the sprint and enduro tracks inside. He always had a story to tell regarding the karting events held in Charlotte. “I can’t think of a more appropriate place to honor one of the most passionate individuals our sport has ever seen. His hard work, dedication, and love covers every inch of this facility. Charlotte is Samie.†- Buddy Long, WKA Director of Operations. Drivers finishing in the top five of each class will receive special commemorative plaques recognizing Samie Borsuk and the Samie Memorial Race. We look forward to a special weekend with the Rage Karts Speedway Pavement Series competitors as we begin the 2007 season at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Event and entry information, as well as, the complete 2007 series schedule can be found here.
