News from Don Schumacher Racing and Matco Tools Racing STOW, Ohio (June 30, 2010) Matco Tools, a manufacturer and distributor of quality professional automotive equipment, tools and toolboxes, hosted its inaugural Matco Tools Charity Car Show on June 22 at Matco's headquarters in Stow, Ohio. The event raised $4,500 for Akron-based Haven of Rest Ministries and was highlighted by 24-time winner Antron Brown and the Matco Tools/U.S. Army Top Fuel dragster.
The charity car show was the brainchild of Matco Tools district managers Bruce Barber and Don Welch and featured 131 muscle and classic cars. The highlight of the event was the appearance of Brown, the only driver in NHRA history to win races and lead the standings in both Top Fuel and Pro Stock Motorcycle, and his Matco Tools dragster. Patrons were wowed when Brown, crew chief Brian Corradi, of Medina, Ohio, and the Matco Tools pit crew started the race car. “This was a fantastic event and we couldn’t be more proud of the effort the Matco Tools distributors and customers put into this event,” Matco Tools Motorsports Marketing Manager John Torok said. “All of us a Matco take a lot of pride in community service and this is an event that we can grow for years to come.” Entry into the car show was two canned goods that were donated to Haven of Rest. The three-hour event produced more than 1,000 pounds of canned goods for the faith based rescue mission. The proceeds were raised from a 50/50 raffle, auction and donations. Prizes included a Matco Tools 4S tool box and 55” flat panel plasma television. “This was one of the best events I’ve been a part of since I’ve been with Matco (Tools),” Brown said. “The entire Matco family should be very proud. We had a great time with the distributors and their customers and it was all for a great cause. Haven of Rest is a terrific program and I encourage people to learn more about the organization. Hopefully we make this an annual event before the Norwalk race because we got to see some awesome muscle cars and meet some great fans.” Last weekend, Brown competed at the fourth annual Summit Racing Equipment Nationals, June 25-27, at Norwalk, Ohio. He qualified his Matco Tools/U.S. Army dragster second at 3.795 seconds at 318.99 mph and advanced to the final round. Brown, who has 24 career wins and 25 poles, has four No. 1 qualifying awards and five final round appearances this season. He ranks fourth in the 2010 NHRA Top Fuel standings following 13 of 23 races. Don Schumacher Racing, headquartered in Brownsburg, Ind., consists of seven professional NHRA teams: The U.S. Army Top Fuel dragster driven by seven-time world champion Tony Schumacher; the FRAM dragster of Cory McClenathan, and the Matco Tools dragster of Antron Brown. The Funny Car teams are the NAPA AUTO PARTS Dodge driven by Ron Capps, the Valvoline/Mail Terminal Services Dodge piloted by Jack Beckman, and the DieHard/shelor.com Dodge driven by Matt Hagan. Since 1998, Don Schumacher Racing teams have won 145 national events in 278 final rounds, and eight world championships. http://www.matcotools.com www.havenofrest.org
