TRG Motorsports Mooresville, NC, (June 2, 2011) Special Operations Warrior Foundation 670-1.jpgThe Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF) will ride on the No. 71 TRG Motorsports Ford Fusion driven by Andy Lally for Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series STP 400 to be run at Kansas Speedway on Sunday, June 5.
SOWF provides immediate financial assistance to special operations personnel severely wounded in the global war on terror. Once notified of a special operations soldier, airman, sailor, or Marine hospitalized with a severe injury, SOWF immediately sends funds to the service member (or his/her designated recipient) so the family and loved ones can travel to be at their bedside. To date, the foundation has provided $1.2 million to the families of wounded special operations personnel. The foundation also provides college educations to the sons and daughters of fallen special operations warriors. Funding includes tuition, books, fees, room and board. Last year, the SOWF provided $4.8 million in scholarship grants, counseling and family support to the families of fallen warriors. “The Special Operations Warrior Foundation is excited about our partnership with TRG Motorsports,” said retired Col. John T. Carney, Jr. President/CEO of the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. “With Memorial Day still fresh on everyone’s mind, the STP 400 is the perfect event to continue pay tribute to America’s special operations forces while honoring the sacrifices of the fallen.” Team owner Kevin Buckler has a family military background and is proud to have the SOWF colors on the No. 71 Ford Fusion. “My father and uncle were in World War II,” Buckler said. “My uncle was wounded in combat, received the Purple Heart and received a full education under the GI Bill. My father was a Navy medic, received his under grad degree, got graduate assistance as well as housing for himself and my mother as he went on to become a Medical Doctor. Although I never personally was in the military I have the utmost respect for those who serve and especially those select few who rise to the level of Special Operations and take their service to the extreme. Our team is proud to have the SOWF colors on the car for this weekend.” “This weekend, we know that TRG Motorsports’ efforts will energize some incredibly passionate people who want to show their concern for our wounded special operations warriors and who also want to ensure the children of our fallen warriors are never forgotten,” said Carney.
